An ideal Surgical Microscope for Endodontic procedures should have certain basic characteristics. Typically these operating microscopes have manual magnificationn changers, and Manual focus, however there are units that are more extensive and combine motorized zoom, and focus features that are typically controlled via pistol grip controls, handswitch or a footswitch. And there are even units with electro-magnetic clutches to facilitate easy stable positioning over the surgical field without the need to loosen or tighten any knobs. Complete articulation of the arm in any position is also required. Special filters to prevent the premature curing of dental composites, and couplings which promote good posture are often sought after as well. The addition of video and or documentation accessories is also common.
